A long overdue and brief COLLECTED AGENDA #6 - more soon xx WHAT I DID Thanks for reading Chloe Pingeon’s Substack! Subscribe for free to receive new posts and support my work. Monday, July 22 I’m writing again. I’m MAXIMIZING my TIME. I’m walking the perimeter of New York or at least downtown Manhattan but I’m walking it in circles so it counts as more. Dinner at Cafe Hong Kong where two lobsters are $38 and where the walls say RIGIDITY AUTHORITY PRECISION RESTRAINT. Later, I’m at the Norman Finkelstein lecture at Sovereign House and it’s gathered an almost surprisingly mixed audience, which I think is a good sign. There’s no one really comparable to Finklestein. Crumps wrote about the lecture well. I got there late. I struggle to articulate my thoughts on reason, and particularly on ideology and morality. Even those terms are inaccurately didactic. I do think I can discern when someone can parse out reason particularly well, and the hour of the Finkelstein lecture that I listen to is among my favorite events of the year. Walking home late. The walk is not nice at all. Tuesday, July 23 I’m thinking that writing out every day like this, like it’s a unit and like it’s packaged and like it’s something worth documenting is starting to feel stale. I’m starting to want all my days to melt into each other like water or sludge. Wednesday, July 24 I’m so sick but not feverish, just exhausted to a degree that indicates either serious illness or perhaps clinical neurosis. I sleep for nineteen hours, order cauliflower sushi, wake up to different variations of light to dark streaming through the greenhouse style roof as I let my day drift. I wonder if this is what it would be like to be ninety and then I wonder if I will ever have energy again. Self indulgent to not even email to cancel evening engagements. The next day, I am cured. Thursday, July 25 I’m ordering lunch from Blue Haven for the third day in a row because my boyfriend likes the crunch wrap there and also the clientele. I like the ritual of walking down the street to a University of Michigan themed sports bar in Soho and of drinking a diet coke daily at the bar at noon. Evening: drinks on the roof with old friends, then drinks at KGB which is quiet. Tipsy, reading Jack Skelley’s MYTH LAB in bed. Theories of Plastic Love. Welcome to the CUTIVERSE . Friday, July 26 My morning is fraught with indecision, but then my evening is so peaceful. It’s blue hour as I’m taking a cab downtown. The air is heavy and humid and hot and I’m in traffic and it feels like it’s about to storm but it doesn’t, just enough cloud cover so that the dusk stays hazy. Not so much cloud cover so that the dusk goes dark. I was thinking it might be time for fall, but right now I am so glad it is still thick July. WHAT YOU SHOULD DO Tonight: Saturday, July 27 at 8pm - Hansen Shi celebrates the launch of his debut novel THE EXPAT — “a spy novel following a disaffected young Asian American software engineer who hates his NPC life in San Francisco and gets recruited as a Chinese industrial spy by a sexy CCP honeypot”. Ellie and I will be co-hosting. DM for address. Sunday, July 28 at 7pm - Confessions will be hosted at KGB . Sunday’s are objectively the best night of the week at KGB, and there’s a very good lineup of readers - Cassidy , Annabel Boardman , Ben Dreith , Christian Cail , Calla Selicious , Genevieve Goffman , and Madeline Cash . Later on Sunday at 10pm - there’s The Right Side of History: A Comedy Show at The Stand , featuring Ivy Wolk , Chloe Troast , and many others. Wednesday, July 31 from 10pm - Devil’s Workshop presents Cherry Bomb at Baby’s All Right . Featuring flash tattoos, tooth gems, live performances by Dallas Wax and Cab Ellis Long, along with DJ sets by Matt Weinberger and Henry Casson . Per usual, it’s a busy Thursday. August 1 - From 6-8pm - Heart House (a new space at 442 Broadway) celebrates their House Warming Exhibition with an almost impossibly large lineup. The exhibition features “uncropped, unedited screenshots from the phones of 26 NYC-based artists”, along with readings by Annie Rauwerda , Mackenzie Thomas , and Mindy Seu . At 7pm - The Drift celebrates Issue 13 with a launch party at Public Records . DJ set by Ludwig Hurtado , and readings by Gideon Jacobs , Ian Volner , Diana Kole, and more. Also from 7pm - Kevin Krauter , Bernard Cohen , Anastasia Coope , and others will be playing Life is Too Short - Experience Live Music at Baby’s All Right Later, from 10pm to late - ledontcrashout presents dontcrashout at Old Flings . Sunday, August 4 from 2pm - 9pm - Princess Gallery celebrates the new moon, hosted by Tess Manhattan , TrustFundGoth , and more. I believe Princess Gallery is a new space on Henry Street, but specific details are unclear. What we do know: the new moon is “a time for manifesting & shedding what does not serve ” Thanks for reading Chloe Pingeon’s Substack! Subscribe for free to receive new posts and support my work.
